Cytopathology Fellowship[]

Unexpected Opening for 2019-2020

Program Description: offers a one-year, ACGME-accredited cytopathology fellowship in a high-volume, collegial setting, under the supervision of six experienced cyto/surgical pathologists. The fellow develops expertise in gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytopathology, including FNAs from all sites and EUS/EBUS specimens. The fellow also works with pathology residents rotating in cytopathology, and with a staff of exceptional cytotechnologists. The fellow has increasing levels of responsibility commensurate with level of performance and is exposed to all aspects of the laboratory, including quality assurance/improvement, fine needle aspiration biopsy adequacy assessment, cytopreparatory techniques, ancillary immunocytochemical and molecular techniques and correlation with surgical pathology specimens. In addition to the large volume of daily cases, the fellow has access to an exhaustive cytopathology library and glass slide study cases.

The laboratory processes over 100,000 Paps annually and uses both ThinPrep and Surepath technologies. It receives over 7,500 non-gyn specimens, including over 2,500 FNAs. Upon completion of the program, the fellow is well prepared for a cytopathology career in either an academic or private practice setting.

Requirements: Candidates must have completed training in anatomic pathology and passed Step-3 of the USMLE.

Applications: Fellow appointments are effective July 1st of each year.  Applicants should submit a copy of their CV, personal statement of interest and goals, and three letters of reference to Claudette Davidson.
