Dr. Gardner is a dermatopathologist and bone/soft tissue sarcoma pathologist. He is Associate Professor of Pathology and Dermatology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) in Little Rock, where he is also the dermatopathology fellowship program director and the musculoskeletal/skin module co-director for the College of Medicine. He is a national/international lecturer on bone and soft tissue tumors, skin disease, and professional use of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, and other social media. He is an active volunteer member in a variety of sarcoma and other rare disease patient support groups on Facebook. He has used his relationship with these patient groups to conduct formal medical research and to advocate on behalf of their diseases (info: He serves on the Board of Directors for the American Society of Dermatopathology. He is Chair of Social Media Subcommittees for the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology and the American Society of Dermatopathology. He also manages social media as deputy Editor-in-Chief of Archives of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine. Dr. Gardner obtained his MD from Tulane University in New Orleans, completed residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at Houston Methodist Hospital, and completed fellowships in bone/soft tissue pathology (under Dr. Sharon Weiss) and dermatopathology at Emory University in Atlanta.

Dr. Gardner started the Pathology Resident Wiki in 2010 as an attempt to provide a central location for up-to-date, comprehensive, useful information regarding pathology residency and fellowship training. As the founder of the wiki, he continues to be the administrator, adding and editing new content and working to continually improve the site.
